Laser acne scar removal – Beyond acne ?

Would laser acne scar removal be the proper treatment ?

That is it. You cannot stand it anymore. Acne was responsible for a great deal of social pain while you were in your teen years.

You have been tolerating past acne scars for too long, so you decided to get rid of them. Now it's time to decide which proper treatment would be suitable for your specific condition.

First, what are your type of scars ? It does not hurt to know that you scarred because something got in the way of the healing process of any acne injury. Mainly something that triggered too little or too much collagen production.

The resulting might be keloid, hypertrophic or atrophic scarring. The first one is reddish and extends beyond the initial area. The second one will fade over time. The last one is also known as ice pick scarring. Unfortunately, keloid and atrophic scarring are here to stay if not taken care of.

Laser acne scar removal : resurfacing and other ways.

There are several types of laser techniques for acne. CO2 and Er:YAG lasers are the most efficient techniques for acne scars. They work by actually performing a resurfacing of the skin. Next comes the fractionated lasers that created a controlled wound and healing process. Lastly, pulsed dye laser technology that aims specifically towards keloid and hypertrophic scars.

However, those wonderful devices cannot treat everyone. You cannot resort to laser technology if you have psoriasis or dermatitis. It is also recommended you stopped any medication long before starting any laser treatment.

So at least three types of laser techniques are available to treat acne. With very good results. Great improvements become visible usually after one week. However, any kind of acne laser treatment can take more than one session, and is rather costly compared to creams and more traditional treatments.

As always the best advice would be to consult with a professional dermatologist prior to start a laser acne scar removal procedure.

Is laser acne scar removal for you ?

When is it the proper time to think about laser acne scar removal ?

For teenagers, Christmas is the occasion for more sugar intake. Candies, cakes, all sorts of chocolate based sweets. So more zits to be expected !

I love sweets, so I won't blame them, for a start. Second, provided adapted measures are taken, there is no bad scarring to worry about.

What types of acne are suitable for laser acne scar removal ?

That technique is to be considered for precise types of former acne, that left the skin sometimes deeply scarred. This is the case for ice pick scars, atrophic scars and boxcar scars. Other scars will eventually fade over time.

So as to ice pick and boxcar scars, the laser technique used is called laser resurfacing. The way it works is it creates controlled wounds under the skin, thus triggering the removal of dead surface cells and the skin rejuvenation in the same time.

It is actually an ablative way of treating the condition. But don't panic ! This is laser, so it won't remove all of your skin !

In addition, don't expect to get out of the dermatologist cabinet free of scars. There is a healing process involved, that generally lasts for two weeks. After that, results are pretty impressive, even with deeply boxcar scars.

Laser acne scar removal techniques

There are generally two laser techniques applied : the CO2 and the YAG (yttrium aluminum garnet) laser. For example the high-energy short pulsed light beams of the YAG are perfect to precisely cut the root of the scars and then resurface the skin.

So will those concept and technologies work for everyone ? Unfortunately not. It has been noticed that results are lower on dark skins than clearer ones. Also, you cannot have laser if you have a keloid or hypertrophic kind of scars. For those, seek professional advice from a dermatologist who could very well resort to glycolic acid peel for that matter.

As for anything that is quite abrasive for your skin, there are precautions and things you can't pass on after the operation. Avoid exposure to the sun, protect the skin with an antibiotic cream to prevent infection.

Laser acne scar removal is effective but you have to be serious about it, not much of a price for a great looking skin, is it ?

Laser acne scar removal – A very interesting alternative acne removal method.

Laser acne scar removalphoto © 2010 Saluda Programa de Salud | more info (via: Wylio)It is interesting to notice how very few people actually know about laser acne scar removal.

As if modern times would have not been able to instill this new idea in their minds. Or else there is too much technology involved for ordinary people to understand the benefits of it ?

Laser acne scar removal : a post acne treatment.

That is a very simple and precise purpose : to remove acne scars. Dumb. So how would this apply to people who suffer from acne ? The answer is somewhat tricky, in as much as if you have zits, this does not apply to you.

If you intend to do something about acne that is existing, then laser is not for you. You had better watch other fields, such as nutrition (little), ways to wash your face (much) and other cosmetics and health products as for example glycolic acid peel.

Actually laser acne scar removal enters the scene once the acne is gone, but the wrong way. That is to say you grew fed up with black or white heads, or any kind of acne zits, and you decided to burst them to expel whatever had to go away.

How does acne scar removal work ?

This, unfortunately, produces scars once the skin irritation is gone. Those scars tend to stay there and be visible. That is where laser is needed and very effective. Indeed the way laser works is it goes under several layers of your skin and detach them so the scar tissue is being removed. So new and unscarred skin can come out and rebuild the previous area. So is it effective ? Of course it is.

There are only two main drawbacks. First, don’t expect results overnight or after one single session. This powerful technique takes time, that is many sessions. The second drawback is a consequence of the first, combined with the high tech nature of the device : it will cost quite a few bucks.

So this laser scar removal technique, although quite effective,  is not for people who are on a budget.
